I recently had the pleasure of meeting a young up and coming jewelry designer​ at Neiman Marcus, Beverly Hills the other day. I was at the store repping one of the many cosmetic brands I work with and overheard some of the employees raving about how beautiful Armenta jewelry was. So curiouser and curiouser, I had to see for myself what all the fuss was about!  Entering the Armenta trunk show, was like stumbling upon Spanish treasure. So many dazzling gemstones and shiny yellow gold rings as well as beautifully crafted necklaces. A pirates dream come true!

After viewing each piece, as though I was at a museum, a beautiful young woman whom was the creator of the company (Emily Armenta) greeted me. ​Her energy was one of vibrance, and she had this kind-positive energy about her. Quite frankly, I am all about energy--if I get a bad vibe about someone I usually walk away. But in her case, I wanted to hear her story and know about this beautiful brand. She kindly told me about her company and we then looked at the many beautiful pieces together. Armenta jewelry is definitely made with passion and you can see it in every piece.​

I believe that through art we have a voice and a message that needs to be heard. In search of my own Duende I discovered a window into the work of Spain’s most famous and important poet of the twentieth century, Federico García Lorca. I've been captivated by Lorca's idea of "duende". 

"Thus duende is a power and not a behavior; it is the struggle that one must endure to create something of greatness”.

Each piece of jewelry that is hand crafted within our studio tells a story. And after hours and hours of work on each piece, finally, there are those moments when we know--not from our thoughts, but from the "duende that climbs inside . . . from the soles of the feet"--that what we are creating is magical.

I strive to push the boundaries and attempt the unexpected. I believe in unleashing the creative force within. Like a painter, I explore working with and mixing many different metals and stones to create a beautiful work of art. 

Our partnership is not only a great opportunity to sell beautiful jewelry, but also to tell an amazing story about inspiration and dreams that will hopefully inspire others.  The story behind the men and women who work at the studio is truly one of inspiration and embodies the American Dream. CELL PHONES AFFECT BRAINWAVES

Cell Phones can cause headaches and disrupt sleep patterns.  This discovery was made at Michigan University and Karollinska Institute in Sweden. There were 71 participants who were studied and it was concluded that the radio-frequency emitted from cell phones caused headaches, dizziness, etc. What’s funny is that it doesn’t take a scientist to figure out that cell phones emit radiation which can alter your natural brainwaves, amongst other things. Anyone who knows about the brain knows that it also emits out waves (frequencies). Holding a device with a high frequency would obviously disrupt the waves your brain is sending out.

The brain is such a unique organ.  Its complexity makes it very unique.  Like I said above the brain also emits waves (frequencies). The brain sends out four types of waves: Beta, Alpha, Theta, and Delta.  Beta waves (approx. 13-30Hz) occur when you are alert; stress and anxiety usually happen during this state. Alpha waves (approx. 7.5-13Hz) occur while daydreaming or in a deep relaxed state. Theta waves (approx. 4-7.5Hz) occur during light sleep or deep meditation. And finally Delta waves (approx. 5-4Hz) occur when the mind is in deep sleep. 

Everyday people are disrupting their natural brain waves by placing a cell phone near their head or just being next to another type of high frequency device (wireless router, etc.) which causes a whole lot of other issues.  Some of those issues could be lack of sleep, headaches or just feeling mentally tired in the morning and possibly throughout the day.  As you may have notice these high frequency devices are everywhere.  For example people who live in an apartment buildings.  They are constantly getting blasted with these waves without even knowing because of their neighbors!!

For a few years now, I've kept my cell phone on airplane mode when I am sleeping or have it in my pocket. And when I turn it on to make a call or check messages, I usually disable network access (internet). Frankly, I don't experience the headaches and dizziness like I used to. When I get an incoming call, I will put that person on speaker and keep the phone away from my head. I believe that cell phones can also disturb the body in other ways, but I'll save that for another topic.

5 SIMPLE TIPS FOR REMOVING OIL STAINS FROM FABRIC

​Oil Stains can definitely ruin a happy moment... Especially when it's an important one! I was inspired to do this post the other day when I was doing a clients makeup for the VMA's. My client had noticed an oil stain on her shirt and went totally bonkers over it. I told her it wasn't noticeable, but she still didn't believe me. The outfit she wanted to wear had to be replaced by one she wasn't too thrilled about. There wasn't anytime to fix it, because she was already running late. 

I've dealt with situations like this in the past. It's not fun when it happens last minute and you're scrambling for another outfit. So I've decided to put together some tips that will help you if oil ever accidentally spills on you. Keep in mind that if it does happen, you must act quickly or the stain will be harder to remove. For expensive fabrics or outfits, I would recommend you take them to the dry cleaners ASAP! 

Here are 5 Tips​:

1. ​Dishwashing Soap and Baking Soda-Mix a solution of dishwashing soap and baking soda, and apply to the stain. Place a washcloth underneath fabric and with a sponge soaked in warm water, massage stain, pressing into washcloth. This can be repeatedly until stain is removed, or follow by washing in washer (Stain should be removed after first wash).
2. Pour hot boiling water onto stain (white garments). Hot water naturally breaks up oil. Make sure to have dishwashing gloves on and also a towel underneath the garment to absorb the oil. Do this is the sink to prevent spilling or burning.
3. Pour vodka onto stain and press with a cloth. The high alcohol content helps to breakup the oil. Follow with warm water on a cloth. ​
4. Soda, preferably one with a high amount of phosphoric acid. Sodas high in phosphoric acid are great for cleaning up stains (oil, blood, mildew, etc.). ​Apply soda to stain and allow 3-5 minutes. Press affected area with warm water and toss in washer.
5. Pour cornstarch ​on stain and place cloth underneath stain. Massage cornstarch with dry cloth. Allow up to an hour. Rinse with warm/hot water and grease cutting dish soap.  

​Remember, these are just tips. Not all will work for the oil stain you have because not all oils are made the same. Some oils are easier to remove, whereas others are more difficult depending on the composition. But with all oils, you must act right away.

Fashion's Night Out!

For those of you who don't know what "FASHION'S NIGHT OUT" is... It's an amazing celebration of fashion! Every year this event happens, and the most stylish fashionistas all come out to celebrate with champagne, music, delectable delights, and lots of shopping. Because I reside in Beverly Hills, I'm very fortunate to get invited to all the Fashion's Night Out parties in the Golden Triangle ;)

This year I attended Neiman Marcus' and Saks ​Fashion's Night Out event. Two words, "Absolutely Amazing!" Many of the socialites and celebs came out to play. Last year Paula Abdul and a few other Starlets attended the Saks F.N.O., and that was sure memorable. This year I was right next to Larry King shopping at Neiman Marcus! I also ran into one of my favorite Swedish models, AnnaMaria Mostrom. Stores had models strutting the runway, stairway, you name it. And Dj's played great music to enhance the shopping experience for all! Fun Fun Fun!

HAIRCARE: MY HONEST REVIEW OF OBLIPHICA

Celebrity hairstylist John Blaine, also Creative Director and co-owner of ​professional hair company Obliphica recently sent me a package of 2 professional Obliphica products to review. Honestly, I've tried so many hair products on the market! And once upon a time, yours truly had long lovely locks that were shiny and bouncy. The maintenance was just too much! So one day I decided to chop it all off. My curls still remain but the length is now only about 3 inches long, whereas back then it was shoulder length or even longer. You can imagine how much product I went through!  

The 2 Obliphica products I got to try were: Professional Treatment Shampoo and Professional Treatment Hair Mask. ​At first glance, the packaging was decent... I'm totally about presentation. I opened up the shampoo, and the smelled the aroma; wasn't too strong--a soft sweet scent. The treatment mask had a slightly stronger scent but both were pleasant and not too overpowering. My hair was ready for a test-drive! 

​Living in LA, you get lots of build up on scalp and hair (Pollution, Dust, Products, etc.). So when it comes to a shampoo, I'd prefer it to lather. The first product was the Treatment Shampoo; a gel-like consistency had me question if it would leave my hair dry. After the 1-2 minute test-drive, my hair felt smooth after the rinse. Not bad. Next was the Treatment Hair Mask; a creamy texture, and the aroma smelled even better when applied to hair and scalp. For a while now, I've been using the L'Oreal Professional Intense Repair. But after the rinse (3 minutes later), my hair felt unbelievably soft-silky and smooth! 

After 1 week of use, my hair has been much easier to manage and the curls are definitely shinier. Overall, I say these 2 products are winners! Unfortunately, I have parted ways with L'Oreal Professional Intense Repair and have now found my new current favorite. Now I see why so many celebrities are ranting and raving about this line. It really works!​

WEIGHT LOSS TIPS: 3 SIMPLE TIPS FOR A SLIMMER YOU

Ever since I've started both my ​Beauty Guru Page on Twitter and Facebook, I've received tons of emails asking about weight loss tips. Working with so many models and industry people, you hear about the latest slimming products and diets. I've tried many of them but later realize that it's always best if you stick with the tried-and-true, and also to just keep it simple. Now, I share with you some Weight Loss Tips I've acquired through the years.

Weight Loss Weapon 1: Raw Apple Cider Vinegar-I mix 1-2 teaspoons of R.A.C. Vinegar with 2 cups water and drink before each meal. After drinking this mixture I'm not as hungry and it prevents me from overeating. This is an old remedy that helps suppress hunger. Most people don't chew their food thoroughly so this leads to overeating. There are so many uses for R.A.C. Vinegar but we'll talk about that in other postings or you can do more research on it. 

Weight Loss Weapon 2: ​Cayenne Pepper-I sprinkle Cayenne Pepper onto my meals to help boost my metabolism. Cayenne Pepper is found in many diet pill products as well as numerous cleanses available on the market (A Natural Detoxifier). The active agent in Cayenne is capsaicin, which helps to stimulate many different types of fat-burning proteins within the body but also has other benefits.

Weight Loss Weapon 3:​ Cold Water-I drink lots of Cold Water throughout the day because it helps to boost the body's metabolic rate. It's like taking a cold shower. Afterwards, you feel so invigorated and energized! And we wonder why nuns and military sergeants dump Cold Water on students and soldiers? It literally forces your cells to vibrate higher to keep the body at a certain temperature. Hence, why you're shaking. This utilizes calories, which gradually leads to weight loss.

These were just a few tips I've learned, but there are more I'll share with you in the future. The key to skinny and healthy is to cut out processed foods, refined sugars, starches, oils (Except for Coconut), ripened fruits, gluten (wheat, rye, etc.), and sodas. Opt for healthier choices like: vegetables, wild fruits, quinoa, wild or brown rice, and sheep's yogurt (Easier to Digest). It's pretty common sense to know what's good for you and what's not. Exercise is also key. With motion there is calorie burning involved, so start moving and Good Luck!

I know this personally, because I go through a few nail clippers a year and they all get dull so quickly!

SKIN TIP: ACNE-PRONE SKIN SHOULDN'T USE WASHCLOTHS

Are you suffering from acne and using a Washcloth? Those who are Acne-Prone should think again! Washcloths collect dead skin cells, which feed bacteria and other microbes. So pretty much, your washcloth harbors bacteria... Lots of it! Every time you dry your face, you spread more allover your face by wiping or patting your skin.

Millions of people all around the world suffer from eczema, which is a skin disorder that involves dry-itchy and scaly rashes that can form allover the body. Trust me, it's not a fun experience and I know, because I was one of those sufferers. Doctors would put me on steroid creams to suppress the inflammation, but quite often I felt it would worsen the condition and I had to sometimes upgrade to a stronger cream. And the problem with constant use of steroid creams is that over-time your skin starts to thin. Mine sure did!

After taking a few courses in nutrition, I realized that eczema could possibly be caused from my diet. Researching the web, I found that many eczema sufferers who cut out Gluten (Triticale, Wheat, Rye, Spelt, and Barley), Seafood, Preservatives, Chemical Dyes, Eggs, Dairy, Soy, and Alcohol; found that the eczema was either healed or the flare ups/itching was reduced. So after switching my diet to a more raw food lifestyle and cutting out all the junk, my skin is baby smooth and rarely do I get breakouts. I'll be honest, sometimes I will treat myself to something from the "No No List," but that doesn't happen often. My diet consist mainly of raw smoothies and juices that I make, and lots of wheat grass!
A very important thing to remember is to always moisturize. Moisture is very important for keeping the barrier function of the skin functioning properly. Hot showers can lead to loss of moisture and exacerbate the problem, so I... 99% of the time, take cold showers to keep the moisture locked in. After shower, I apply a moisturizer that is free of dyes, perfumes, synthetic chemicals, and preservatives. I'm not guaranteeing any of this will work for you, but it sure has worked for many eczema sufferers and myself!
